Car won't go over 2000 rpm.

just restored my e30 325i msport since putting the engine back in it is almost like hitting the limiter at 2000rpm and wont go anymore and throws a flame out the exhaust and pops through the air filter. anyone got any ideas. was running fine before engine was removed.

Have you tried a air flow meter?

i thought it could be but its not been on there long so would of thought it would still be good and why would it only just go when engine removed and put back in.

have you changed the cam belt? If its banging through the inlet the timing sounds off.

timing fine runs fine till 2000 rpm then no power idles fine and runs sweet up to 2000 then nothing i did the cambelt 6 months ago and its been fine since then. engine was only out for a week so i can't see that its anything major.

Will it rev with the air flow meter plug disconected?

dose it just stay at 2000rpm or kinda "bounce" around ?

cuts out when its upluged and it just stays at 2000rpm

Sounds like its on the ignition side then.
