cam belt ? tappets?

hi i have recently asked my mechanic to change the cam belt and adjust the valve clearances on my 325i.... he told me the engine was run on a chain and has a hydrolic valve system? i am not so good at getting stuck into the engine myself (so far :cool: ) iam dead sure this is wrong what he is telling me???? if any one can help would be great.

get a new mechanic, he obviously has absolutely no idea about the engine type in your car so i wouldnt be trusting him with my pride and joy :mad:

The E30 325 engine uses a timing belt and adjustable valve clearances. E36 onwards had timing chains and hydraulic tappets so if you have the original m20 325 engine, your mechanic is wrong.
