lots of water in drivers footwell

Hi All,

Was driving in some pretty heavy rain yesterday and over the course of the drive (about 2 hours) my footwell basically filled with water. If I was pointing down hill about 2-3 inches of water gathered around my feet!

This is a new development.

I've had a look through the site and had a look at the scuttle panel and it's draining fine - but - the elephant trunk thing is missing. Would that cause the problem?

How do I remove the wipers in order to remove the vents so I can see if there is any rust.

I've had a quick look in the wheel arch and it seems to be rust free.

Given how much water came in I'm assuming something is basically draining into my footwell?

thanks,
Graham

Elephants trunks cause problems when they are clogged up, so yours being missing, whilst not good, should not direct water into the footwell.

If you are talking about the black plastic vents, they just prise away (use either a thin bladed screw driver with tape around the end to protect your paperwork, or a strong fingernail) as there are, if memory serves me right, about three tabs top and bottom. No need to remove the wipers.

You could check that your sunroof drains are working correctly as this can cause water to end up in the footwell.

Heater matrixes sometimes do so as well, but since your problem occured during heavy rain this seems less likely.

Bit vague, I know, but hopefully some of this will help.

thanks for the replies.

The drivers side wiper is in the middle of the vent - I can't prise the vent off because the wiper is holding it in place?

Well, carefully prise the cap off from the base of the wiper, undo the nut holding it in place and take the wiper off. You can then prise the vent out. Simples winkeye
