Hi Guys - I've got my Bimmer up for sale at the moment, but due to lack of interest in what I believe to be a very nice example I'm considering doing the Auto-Manual conversion and keeping her a while longer - having never taken something like this on before....

What is involved?
What will I need?
Approximate costs? etc etc

Cheers in advance

Ru

Parts needed are

gearbox with selector etc
flywheel
clutch
spigot bearing
pedal box with the gubbins (pipe work, resevoir, slave etc)
Not sure on the prop
And i think thats it!

Its not really a hard swap as its all bolt on bits

Cost: you could get it done for under £100 using second hand parts exept the spigot bearing that goes in the end of the crank but its only about a tenner from the dealers.

What engine is it and year of the car?

Thanks Lee,

It's a 1986 320...

How long would you expect this to take a novice? (that's me!)

Front half of the manual prop is needed, also need gearbox support with bushes. Make sure the selector rod assembly is complete with the rear mount. Gear knob and boot too...

A days work, max 2, depends how good you are......

Personally I remove the engine with box as I find it's quicker and easier than struggling under the car but I dont have access to a ramp. I can have the lot out in about 2 hrs..... Did one last weekend, started at about 0930 and was back in and running by 1500. :D

Thanks guys,

Would you be interested in taking this on Tomson? or anyone else? I'd be more than happy to have a go - but havent got the first idea where to start, not being mechanically minded... plus the prospect of getting it done in a day......

Any quote seriously considered....
