M40 Engine probs

Hey Guys, got some problem's with my 318i auto in that there is oil leaking at where the engine and gearbox bolts together and also the temprature guage needle seems to go over the halfway point on the temp guage within 10mins from starting the engine from cold, i then had a look at the spark plugs and they are as black as coal, i then got told i should try doing a compression test which i did and the results i got starting from the bulkhead end of the car and working down towards the radiator end, starting with the reading for the cylinder closest to the bulkhead after the first compression stroke i got a reading of 7 bars on the compression guage then on the 2nd stroke i got a reading of 10 bars and on 3rd stroke i got a reading of 12 bars, on the next cylinder i got a reading of 8 bars on the first compression stroke, on the 2nd stroke it was 10 bars and on 3rd stroke it was 12 bars, on the last 2 cylinders i got a compression reading of 6 bars on the first stroke, 10 bars on the 2nd stroke and 12 bars on the 3rd stroke, this was done with the throttle fully open. Does any1 have any idea's as to what is wrong and how to solve this problem? and why oil is leaking from between the engine and gearbox? Thanks again guys Fraser
the oil leaking is most likely the oil seals for the crank shaft unless the oil is getting in between the engine and gearbox from some where else, if you can have the engine cleaned check for other leaks or just check the seals but that means pulling apart engine and gearbox
about the temp have you checked the thermostat also does the car get hot while standing or when your driving if standing then your fan may have come to the end of its life and those plugs being black are a sign of oil leaking on to them could be the oil rings on the pistons
