i bought a e30 320 cab few weeks ago it got a welded diff and drives like poo just drags the other wheel i just bought a 325 yesterday witch i want for a driftcar but dont want it to drive like the cab
does any one bother welding the diff on hear ?or just get lsd ?
i was just wondering maybe the guy didnt weld the diff properly

been discussed before mate... lsd is best and safest option

I have a welded diff, car's been setup for drifting... As said above, if the diff's not welded properly it's dangerous!

I bought a 320i that had the diff welded "properly" by a professional. At first i thought the crabbing was outrageous and it was going to break at any moment, especially on full or near full lock. But its fine, annoying but fine. I drove it daily for months! When you drift its great, easier than with an lsd or an open diff! I have had an 325i with lsd one with regular as well as an e36 m3 and manual e39 540i and in my humble opinion the 320i with welded drifted best of all, despite the lack of grunt! Especially in damp or wet conditions (To be fair the M went better in the dry) If you can afford it (300ish) get an lsd practically if it’s a daily driver.

but welded diffs cause you to understeer and crash into groups of nuns waiting at bus stops. everyone knows that! durrr.

I have to disagree, if you're not capable of handling a car to maintain control and correct understeer/oversteer safely, you should definitely not consider getting the diff welded, but if you can then it's not much different driving day to day

Murran was, as his sig pic suggests, being silly. Welded diffs don't kill nuns, they kill kittens, everyone knows this.

I don't have hundreds of pounds going spare for an LSD so I got my diff welded. Yes it sounds as if your car is going to die at any moment but the most tyre wear I've noticed is on the front, not the back, and that due to the horrific parking speed understeer. On an open road they handle fine, around town they can be annoying/embarassing but who's trying to do high speeds in urban areas?

I have a welded diff and it is 100% the most head-turning thing I have ever had on a car, as well as the most misunderstood.

Oh, if you do have a welded diff check the bolts holding the driveshaft to the diff, they have a bad habit of coming loose.

i also wouldnt buy an lsd for £5 over the freeness of a welded diff.

Has anyone got pics of the internals of a welded diff, im intrigued to find out how it actually works, aside from the obvious...

Basically get a big, thick metal plate, put it in the middle of the gear cage and weld it to everything.

This is true, just don't drive like a tit in the wet expecting the car to save you. It won't.
