Exhaust Fumes in Car when window is open

Got a bit of an strange one i cant put my finger on with my 325i..

When moving along with the windows or the sunroof open im getting a very strong smell of exhaust fumes in the car.. It seems as though the fumes are being dragged in by the negative pressure in the car with the windows open whilst moving along. Its definately an exhaust smell rather than petrol.

It does get quite bad and make you feel ill on long journeys so im face with driving with windows closed and blower on full blast on hot days (not ideal).

Last week i replaced Downpipe gasket as it was blowing a little and suspected it to be this. It has improved it a little, but the fumes are definately still there?

Anyone had this problem before? If so have you cured it and how? Any pointers would be very much appreciated before i kill anymore braincells!

Have you a standard back box on there?
If the rear pipes are too short this can cause a problem with fumes entering the car.

Yeah, standard exhaust.. will check this when home from work. Also did another thorough search on here for similar problems, apparently boot seal can be a casue of leak due to wind swirl behind the car as it drives.. so will check the rear of car for any small holes tonight too..

Fingers crossed!
