Bespoke Air Flow meter for LPG?

Hello
I have a 1990 325i touring which is LPG converted with a single point system. It has never ran nice, overfueling and running poorly. I don't use the gas anymore, just petrol, still poor.

I replaced the air flow meter and it ran a bit better 20%. I took it for a diagnostics today and they told me they could not do a diagnostics as the air flow meter was faulty, the resistance bridge in the meter had snapped.

I expalined I had the original one and took that down, by sight he diagnosed this one to be faulty too, and expalined a bespoke air flow meter was needed to run on gas and fuel.

I outlined that surely the LPG converter would have put on a bespoke air flow meter if it was needed? Does anyone know where an LPG convered car needs a bespoke set up of the air flow meter? This sound like Bollox to me?

Apparently no futher diagnostics can be performed as the car is running too rich to do any diagnostics?

Anyone had a faultly air flow meter before? What are the symptoms?

I would be happy to pay you Ԛ£27 for your AFM, but could you confirm you know it's working, as there seems to be a lot of dodgy old air flow meteres out there, I've had two already and don't want another!

Why did you take it off? Needs to be the same model as well, I've got the code numbers on the AFM, give me an email on kanedavies@blueyonder.co.uk to arrange payment etc... I don't think meeting up would be possible as I'm in Birmingham.

Sorry no pics of engine, havent got a camera

Cheers

There's no such thing as a bespoke airflow meter for LPG. In fact, the airflow meter's not really needed when running on LPG.
When my kit was first fitted, I was supplied with the wrong size backfire protection device, not once, but twice. I was reluctant to risk loosing the air meter to a backfire, so I drilled a small hole top and bottom of the flap housing, so that I could insert a piece of stiff wire to hold the flap completely open. Ran happily like this for about two months.
If I ran low on gas, and had to run petrol, then I simply opened te bonnet and pulled out the pin.
Where is the gas mixer on your system?
If it is between the air meter and the throttle body, then your LPG system will never work properly unless you fit a flap opening device to the air meter. Maybe this is what your diagnostics "mechanic" is refering to.
