stick with me on this one but would you say getting an industrial jet wash on my e30's carpet once its out is a reasonable way of cleaning it.
bit of hot foam brush action then a good spray to get all the ingrained crap out.
it shouldn't do any harm to the fabric ?
any other Ideas guys ?

That is pretty much the way I cleaned my carpet, you will be suprised at how thick the sound deadening material is once the carpet is out of the car,I used an ice scraper as a squeege to get surplus water out to help it dry, still took several days, though!

I did exactly this with mine (then dyed it grey) and it works a treat. E30 carpets will take plenty of punishment - mine is 26 years old and came up like new.
Sprayed if first with a general upholstery cleaner then gave it a bit of a scrub with a softish brush then gave it plenty with the high pressure hose. My carpet wasn't bonded to sound deadener so that stayed in the car.
I was stunned at how good it looked once fully dried and give a brush to lift the pile.
I have heard that E30 carpets changed over the years but definitely the early nylon ones are fine for this treatment - they also take dye unlike newer polypropylene carpets

E30 carpets are virtually indestructible, and can hold an amazing amount of liquid.
Pressure wash it, and hang it up to dry, so that one corner is the lowest point.
