my oil service light has come on, theres oil in, not long since did oil and filter change, i even topped it up to make sure.
Also, since i bought the car the inspection light has been on, the previous owner says he did the services himself, i had it serviced by a mechanic whose a friend when i bought it but we never did the light. ( At this point the light was green)
In the past 2 weeks or so it has changed from green to yellow, and then yellow to red.
I assumed this light meant that a service is due but does it mean something is wrong or anything like that?
help would be much appreciated
Ross.

Could be the SI board,do a search on this, they can do all sorts of funny things with the dash lights!

Sorry meant to say the batteries in the SI board, they can leak and ruin the back of the board, hence making the dash lights play up.
Not trying to scare you, could just need re-setting,but is a very probable cause.

Once the red service LED is on, it should stay on until reset. If it changes back to yellow or anything else, or the lights do odd things after being reset, then the most probable cause is failing batteries on the SI board.
If these failing batteries are left in place, other symptoms will develop, and they will leak, destroying the board.
Easily changed, if you know how to use a soldering iron.

The "equipment or tool" is 6 inches of wire!

One end in pin 7 of the diagnostic socket, the other end to a good earth, turn the ignition on until the lights reset.
