E30 Zone

after my car breaking down on sunday (1/3/2009) i found blown fuse for fuel pump, replaced that and still didnt start, fitted a new fuel pump this evening, all was fine , just went to go out in the car and now wont start , tries to but dies straight away.... can anyone help with the fuel pump relay location?....

if a 4 pot it's under a long cover across the bulk head.
there is room for three relays but i've only seen two here.
its the one nearest the fuse box.

If the pump fuse blew, then the problem is almost certainly the fuel pump itself beginning to stick.
A good thump with the handle of a hammer or a long 1/2" socket extension bar will usually get it going temporarily, but it needs replacing.

does your car have an immobilizer?

i've replaced the pump yesterday and now the relay with a non genuine one (is it recommended to use a genuine one?) today and seems fine, i took the old relay apart and it had burnt out.... yes the car does have an immobilizer but dont think thats at fault, i think the pump seized due to me cleaning it out whilst replacing the tank , just going to give it a run now to see if its all ok....

what happened, anything?

yeah its all fine, doesn't start like it used to though. takes 2 cranks of the key to get it going....

Assuming your replacement pump was second hand, it probably has a faulty non return valve, and is allowing the pressure in the fuel rail to drop off while parked.
