Hi all,
I had my car put on a diagnostics machine as my asc light won't turn off and the car keeps hiccuping and the machine came up with a cam sensor fault and throttle position sensor i brought a new cam sensor and throttle sensor and when its put back on the machine the cam sensor code can be wiped but the throttle position sensor code won't and its says "119 THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR SIGNAL" anyone know what could be wrong????
TIA
Michael

Hi mate its a 318ci 2000 X reg
the problems are i cannot switch the asc off and the light stays on the dash and every now and again the car hiccups and even if i put my foot flat to the floor the car will rev upto 2.5 thou and then drop down and then back up..

time to start looking at a wiring diagram then.
has it got the power and earth it'll need?
check continuity of signal wires back to the ecu etc.
just a thought leave it completely unplugged the ecu wil recognise its open circuit and use base/safe figures insted.
may idle high and the light with definalty be on, but it should run better than the ecu using false/wrong signals.

sounds like madness to someone not in the know to just unplug things, but the ecu is designed to run without stuff like this. when you unplug it the ecu uses a default value. an e30 ecu doesnt have this ability but modern cars do.
while the tps is plugged the ecu is trying to use a faulty sensor signal, it knows this, as you have the fault code, but it is still using it.
with it unplugged the ecu can see the power/earth is open circuit and it'll use the default values.

There was 2 of the plugs the same as the tps plug and we changed them around now it seems to be ok. the car had some work done on the engine and i'm guessing the guy has plugged them back up wrong.

Don't you think it might have helped with the diagnosis if you'd mentioned that the car had been faulty since someone had worked on it????!! It is quite relevant!
Glad it's sorted, so can we now please not contaminate this forum any more with E46 stuff. They don't even make good donors for E30's, except for a few parts.
