Removing waterpump

Hi guys
Wanted to remove the water pump today but could'nt
Get the fan assy off!!!!
How do you undo the 32mm nut with out the pulley moving
!!!!!
(i now you have to turn it clockwise to undo)

Hit/tap the spanner with a hammer.
Also, just in case you didn't know, it's a reverse thread

You should be able to 'shock' it undone by hiting the spanner with a hammer,unless its been thread locked

To stop the thing from turning as you belt it with your Birmingham spanner,put an old drive belt around the pulley twisting it tight with a short bar(screwdriver)to wedge it.
