Okay...so maybe it's not quite that bad

I've been having trouble with my car stalling. The dash lights will sometimes come on for no reason or the "check" light will just start flashing. The heater is sometimes not working well and then all of a sudden it works. It's been cold here and when I'm in town it will sometimes stall and not work again for a few hours. I'll come back to it having done absolutely nothing and it "click - click click - Rrrrrraaahhh- put- put put- put put put." and it runs fine!?
I've been to an Auto shop where they tested my battery and alternator which they say are fine.

Please help quickly, I don't want to loose my job over this car.

sounds like bad eaths but could be a combination of loose conections and bad wires after 18-20 years, my windows take a fancy to not working sometimes, didnt wanna go up entering a motorway this afternoon and it wasnt warm!!!

just check the earth straps/points and make sure all your fuses are in properly and check them, after that itll be someone elses view on the situation but just some genreal help...

can you say how it stalls weather you lose all lights and no power or if it stalls and turns over and red lights show on dash.

i really do think you have a bad earth some were shorting out as heater switch usserly works or it dosnt and only has nuber 4 as that a direct switch right though, but some one will be along when its not silly o clock on xmas morning.
and mery christmas

For a start, take off the main engine to body earth strap, clean it up thoroughly and replace it.
See what faults, if any, remain after that.

Thanks, i'll check the earth connections. I purchased a new battery and that seemed to help a bit, the other one was new; however, it was rubbish.

When it dies the lights go out and weird electrical things happen. My rev counter started working the opposite way and the dash light warning sings come on. The engine stalls and when I try to turn it back on it clicks. The electricity seems to work on it though including power steering (for when you have to push it out of a major intersection complete with ice and a road works crew.)

Thanks for the help so far :)
