m40 problems.

can anyone guide me in the right direction?
my m40 has a hard time ticking over when cold, and sometimes cuts out when pulling up to traffic lights.
i'm straining the alternater a bit with two batteries(1 on switchable charge), which pulls the revs down a touch.
but the rough cold start, and lumpy running after a short rest period is getting on my nerves now...
so if anyone can help with some info, it would be appreciated.
dan.

not 100% sure but lumpy running might be because of ICV - remove it and give it a good clean with carburator cleaner
I'm sure that a full list of things to be checked will be posted in...seconds
