on my 325i i have a 6 wire TPS, but on my new loom, i have a 3 wire TPS plug.

whats the difference between the TPS's apart form the number of wires?

and more importantly, how can i get it to work? can i slice the old plug onto the replacement loom, or do i need to replace the TPS too?

apparently the 6 wire one i have now is from when the car was an auto, but the 3 wire one is for a manual.

do i need to change the ecu though now? are auto and manual ecus the same? my current ecu is a 173 one. this ok?

ECU is fine. 6 wire TPS is the same as the 3 wire, but with another switch added on for the switchable auto box.
You either need to change the TPS for a manual one, or splice the 6 wire plug onto your new loom.

Only problem you're ever likely to have with using the auto engine loom and TPS, is if you ever need a replacement TPS, when you'll be restricted to the much rarer six pin type.
