Head Light Wash/Wipe

Hi guys and gals
I have just fixed up the wiper motors for the head lights and they now swish beautifully. However, the wash doesn't seem to work.
Does anyone know when the headlight wash should spray? is it every time that they wipe or is it less frequent?
I have connected the pump up to the windscreen connector and know that the motor works and the tubes aren't blocked so am a bit stuck as to what the problem is.
The only thing i think it could be now it the control box is knackered. hope not.
Any help appreciated
