E30 Zone

Hi Guys,

Wondering if you have any ideas on this..

When I try start up my 320i in the mornings lately (since I left it sitting while I was away last weekend) it won't start first time.

Well, it usually starts but doesnt hold the revs so cuts out a few seconds later.

This morning it took around 10 attempts to start up with some major accelarator use while ticking over to get it going, once it gets going its grand though not a bother on it.

Not really sure what to check first? Any ideas would be great.

give it a winter service mate, antifreeze,plugs,points/dizzy oil ,filter etc. check battery is giving out good power. an holding charge!!any garage can check it for you. if that dont sort it must be a problem with fueling i reckon

Coolant temperature sensor. 100% sure on that

there aint no pionts on a e30 unless its a very early e30

thats right,but you got what i meant by service. shouldnt you be down tesco's

if the coolant temp sensor fails im sure it tells the ecu its cold anyway,
give it a service,plugs/oil/filter etc
"check" the dizzy cap & rotor (no point in spending 50 odd quid if its ok)they last well)
check the plug leads though for cracks/splits
my 320i done this when i first had it and it turned out to be the leads!

Have all I need to service it just havnt got round to it, trying to find a dry day to get it all done is next to impossible this time of year!!

Speaking of the coolant temperature sensor, if that fails or is faulty would it cause the "Coolant" light to pop up on the OBC? Because that has been popping its head up on and off lately... and strangely enough coincides with the lack of starting!

coolant light wont have anything to do with the cold starting,
the sender for this sits on the expansion bottle!
