Clutch pedal and fluid problem

Took my 325is for a good blast Friday night everything was fine.

Came to drive it Saturday morning and the clutch pedal had I lot of free play and the biting point was very low down. I checked the clutch fluid and It had reached minimum toped it up gave the pedal a good pump, took it out for a drive 5miles it was fine again.

Didn’t use the car until today, have been to busy to have a look to see what the problem is. But the same happened again, clutch pedal had I lot of free play and the biting point was very low down. I checked the fluid and It had reached minimum toped it up gave the pedal a good pump, took it for a drive and it’s been fine. I will jack it up tomorrow and have a look underneath.

Am I right by thinking that it could be the clutch slave cylinder leaking slightly? Has any one had the same problem before?

I think I might as well order one any way don’t thing it’s ever been changed.

I did change the fluid on the service I gave it two weeks ago.

Thanks JayB

It'll most probably be your clutch master cylinder leaking aswell Lift the rubber boot round it on the inside and check for any brake fluid thats leaking down onto the firewall which should be cleaned appropriately.

Replace them both as a pair as it'll save you hasstle in the long run.

Perhaps the clue is in the last line of your post...some air left in the system? If there is a puddle of fluid under the slave then yes, slave is the culprit. When you changed the fluid, you did leave the nipple tight? Is the flexi hose sound? Is the carpet under the clutch pedal soggy? If so,the master cylinder may be the culprit.

I just been out to my car the master cylinder is fine no leaks at all dry as a bone. Looked round all the pipes in the bay no leaks at all.

100% sure the nipple is tight.

Can't see anything on the floor, Iv'e got a gravel drive and I hadn't long washed it.

I don't have time to change them both until the weekend, my cars booked in for some body work tuesday.

Do euro car parts stock the flexi hose?

I will only get chance to look under it, tomorrow at work.

Is the fluid reservoir holding the fluid or have you needed to top it up?

if so, theres a leak, most likey the master cylinder.

Look underneath today it was the slave cylinder leaking, orderd one from euro car parts £17.16. Fitted and working fine now.
