a mate of mine has an H plate 316, he checked his oil last week and it was just below the min.

so into his garage he goes and finds a 1 litre bottle of halfrauds mineral and bangs in there....it wasnt enough so he goes down to hal's and comes back with a semi syn bottle and bangs that in too.

now he has loss of power below 2000rpm and most of the time doesnt start up (this started about a week later) it takes him like 20 mins of spinning it over and moving about on the starter motor before it fire....and most days he cant start it at all.

reckon this is down to the oil, or the fact it hasnt had a good service for years?

I dont think the fact different oils have been mixed together would cause a problem so quickly - maybe in the long term. At the end of the day, they're still lubricating the essential bits and bobs, all be it not as good as they should do because they won't mix together properly.

The poor starting and poor running more likely to be the result of years of neglect or possibly a problem with the fueling. If it was caused by poor lubrication and seized internals, the starter motor wouldn't turn freely. Thats my 2p's worth, I aint no mechanic though!
