can you use HID bulbs and ballast packs for the main beam lights?

You can I believe but they aren't suitable in the sense that they don't like being turned on and off frequently. Main beam on E30s is pretty good anyway. I have HIDs in my headlights and hardly ever need the main beam any more.

so what happens when you turn them on off frequently? Do they overheat or something. Lots of new cars have bi xenon headlamps. As an aside, is there any advantage to fitting them to foglamps as well?

i was thinking of getting a set of these HID light kits, will it be worth and do they make much diffrence ??

HID kits are great!

Frogman, rapid turning on and off weakens the bulbs because they get really hot or something like that. Do a search mate to find out. There are some good threads on these somewhere.

sorry to change topic slightly but me and my step dad have had a few e30s and the headlights seem to be hit or miss some work good and some are like candles, am i rite in thinking its due to when the hydrolic light adjusters stop working with the lights in the fully adjusted down position

i do fancy a set of HIDs since there only 20 quid or what ever now.

HID is the way forward.

No you dont need HID main beam if you have HID dip beam.

When the HID are turned on, they flash brightly then go dim, then in 5 seconds have heated up enough and are bright.

Get the 4300k as that the closest to white light. If you go higher ie 6000k like mine they go blue ish.

Thwy are very good value for money now on ebay and are really easy to install.

That makes sense. I've heard before that the 4300K is the best all rounder. My lights are s**t and thinking of getting these. Dips only seems to be the way to go. Full lights and fog lights not required.

I got hids in my pre face lift their the nuts and I aint got lihght adjusters
but the bloke with the side lights has had me over
he got the money but no lights for me

I have HIDs in both my low beams and high beams and have had no issues with dipping them with them in for around 2000miles now.

The low beams are great but, with the high beams on, the light is amazing.

Still only two xenon bulbs with BiXenon.

BiXenon headlamps use an electromagnetic shutter arrangement exposing the bulb output to a different optical path, hence no time delay in acheiving full beam.

To take the 2006 Z4 (with bi xenons) as an example, the inner lamps that look like full beam are in fact dummy lights. A smaller halogen bulb is used to enable the flash/signal function.
