ignition barrel removal

does any one know how to remove the ignition barrel,
really need to get it removed to be able to continue using the car properly


Edit: need to remove the barrel from theo's ttoring to my e30 any ideas??

you can drill a hole under the barrel where the locking clip on the barrel is but i cant remember where just keep drilling untill you find it on the scrap car

I normall grind a slot on the headless bolt underneath so it can be undone with a flat ended screwdriver then remove the circlip/spring clip on the steering colum then the whole thing just slides off.

Don't drill anything dude...i didn't need too.

If you look at the barrel closely enough, there is a small 1/2mm hole next to were the key slots in, push a 2mm nail, prefrebly a long'ish one, into the hole and the barrel should pop out.

someone has covered this in the articles section with pics too . when you push the nail or pin into hole beside the lock you will need the key to be in position one otherwise you will not release the clip that holds the lock in place

yer i have the broken half of the key that can be turned with a scre driver or the other half of the key, theo kindly got this out so massive thanks to him just about to remove the buggered one and fit the new one so ill see what happens

thanks for all you replys and will report back and will get pictures posted on a how too etc so then it can be stickied :wink:

RIGHT there i was with a the smallest allan key i had which is 1.5/2mm and i put the lock to 2nd postion, and felt a force and a click and tried removing and noting so realy pushed the allan key and wiggled the lock and it poped once more and it came out, didnt have to remove the cowling nothing!!! literly 2nd postioin and in

literly the tools you need providing you have the key,
is a 1.5mm allen key or solid bar thats the right size and a flat end screw driver


with out pictures its hard to explain but i will put a how to up with pictures :wink
