Are these inlets/outlets? should there be anything coming off them?
A different view. I can see something was there/has been removed.
Wanted:Haynes manual for 1989 325is.

what that is, is the IDLE CONTROL VALVE
The arrow is illustrating what i bleive is the direction of the air flow; and so you have installed it correctly!
if it is faulty; the idle will be hunting; as in jumping arounmd on the rev counter

there are two pipes that go there. One pipe comes from the thermostat housing and the other is from the engine block.

like kulvinder said there should be water passing through those I have no idea why or what for maybe a cold start thing ?

The pipes are an anti icing thing and potential water leak that isn't needed anywhere civilised in the UK.
Disconnecting the pipes from the throttle (and joining the ends together) is a worthwhile mod.

do you need to cap of the ends where the pipes would go in; as would this not suck air in; or can you leave them bare

The pipes carry water to heat the throttle body,so nothing can be 'sucked in' by removing them.We go to a lot of effort these days to get cold air intoour engines,so why heat the throttle body?Ibought a length of suitable diameter tube frommylocal motor factor for a few pence and ranit direct from the thermostat housing to the rear of the block, this way you also eliminate two joins that could give you a potential mystery water leak.. heated manifolds were used when carberetters were in use, mainly to prevent fuel/air seperation after the carb.,these days fuel is injected direct into the valve throat and cold air is denser than warm, therefore you can get more air into the engine.

Daimler,
not being rude, but what do you mean a proper piece, what diamter and length!
is is difficult attaching the piep from the thermo to the back of the engine, with all the gubbins in situ?
plus, does this mean i need to blled the system again?
sorry for all thr q's

I've gotta do this mod to mine at some point. The less hot air going into my engine the better, and it's free!

Seemto remember that the pipe is 8mm internal diameter,if you pullone end off the T/B you could use a ruler to measure it

(sorry) you will need about a metre of pipe and two nice shiney new jubbilee clips would be good.Just remove the existing pipes and fit the new, water loss willbe minimal so top up in the usual way and check for air in the usual way Looks like my spacer bar needs a good thump!!

Thanks for the input. Will crack on with that later in the week. Been changing the Discs and pads all day, Brembo, all round, very nice!
Took the sport for a little test drive, ended up going to far, snaked up the rd, spun out and hit a kurb

So new rear arm to go in the week + 1 oz multi spoke to go in the bin! Still was an amazing little test drive!
