I've managed to cut them out with a stanley knife in the past. You could also try a Dremel or similar to cut them out.

Once you've weakened the factory glue, they tend to crack out quite cleanly.

I had regular (flat) covers on there and I just bought a pair of Alpine tweeters with their own pods and fitted them - they look fine.
JBL are better quality however and one important thing: throw away the stupid capacitor and fit a proper 2 way crossover from Maplin.

By using the supplied capacitor the tweeter will get too much mid and low frequency still, flap around too much, and not sound half as good as it really should. Tweeters hate flapping around (they go very non-linear), they should hardly be moving at all. The crossover will give you roughly twice the bass attenuation for the tweeter drive allowing you a) more volume and b) better sound.

Try and remove some of the glue with a craft knife. Then mine just popped out with some gentle persuasion.
