central locking / power with key removed

Right where 2 start?

1. Central locking, as i've seen from previous posts from members with locking problems i decided 2 tackle mine myself. Not being the worlds most intelligent enthusiast, it didn't take me long to find myself in a pickle. Now i've only just read BrianMoore's locking mod, so i'll give that a go 2moro. Can anyone tell me whats this loose green/brown wire situated behind the lock mech i found is for/from/use?

2. The car's been idle for a while, so i replaced the battery today. Starts/stops fine. But when i removed the key from the ignition, the check lights were still on, the wipers could still operate, and the horn was functionable 2. As if the key was in and was turned to the 1st click. I've now disconnected the battery 2 save the power, has any1 got an idea?

That green/brown looks more like brown/green to me, which makes a lot of difference!
If the car has an delayed switch off for the interior light, it's part of that.
I've no idea on the ignition switch problem without a lot more information.
The ignition switch wires go through a plug and socket clipped to the steering column about half way down. Unplug this, and see if this kills the power.

Problems with the central locking mod...

Today i done the easy to follow 'red/black' mod guide http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... ic&t=79331
Did it all as shown in the pictures, very simple, and yes the live pins were corroded! Plugged the connecter back in and now i have no central locking what so ever  Am i really that incompetent? lol!
Before the mod, the car would lock from the boot and passenger side, but not the drivers door, this had to be done manually from inside the car. Where did i go wrong?

Now back to the ignition problem :banghead: I unclipped the plug half way down the steering column (as suggested by Brian) and it did kill the power. Now what i have noticed is that somebody in the past has been amongst these wires and had a right laugh.

Also i found this?

After phoning my mate to ave a good ol' whinge he seems to think the ignition problem (power with no key) is something to do with the after market cd player and the way its connected to a live? We're gonna look into this on the wkend (weather permitting).

Do you have 12 volts between the red/black wire and the brown wire at the locking module socket? Check with a 12 volt bulb, NOT a meter.
If unplugging the ignition switch wiring at the socket on the steering column cures the permanent ignition problem, and no non BMW wires have been added to this part of the loom, then the ignition switch itself must be faulty.

Once again, thanks for your input Brian. I shall let you know the outcome.
