I keep having to top up the coolant on a regular basis . on the water pipes in the engine bay i can see some dry water ( looks like dry powder ) no leaks anywhere and the car drives fine. But do you think its the water pump?- if so - how mich am i looking at .

Some more info in particular which engine you have may be of use fella.
It could well be the water pump spraying water on to the fan and then going everywhere.

Fairly easy and cheap to replace, though you may as well do cambelt and tensioner at the same time.

It cost me around £150 for all the parts from BMW (you get a discount for returning the old pump, even a pattern part).
