Phantom Hazard Switch

My hazard switch started playing up the other day so I swapped it for my spare one but that is doing bonkers things too.....but different to switch one. Here's what's occurring:
Hazard #1:
All instruments and stereo display flash on and off when the N/S indicator is flashing. Doesn't do it when the other indicator is selected.
Hazard switch doesn't illuminate when lights are on but does when hazards switched on.
Rheostat on headlamp switch not adjusting dash illumination.
Hazard #2:
Instrument panel doesn't illuminate at all when headlights are on.
Hazard switch doesn't illuminate when lights are on but does when hazards switched on.
Rheostat on headlamp switch not adjusting dash illumination.
I borrowed another working switch and that does the same as switch #2.
I've had to go back to switch #1 as at least I can see my dials at night with that one.
Question is..........what in Sam Hill is going on here?????
