Mine do it too, doesn't annoy me at all though. It gives that E30 convertible special feeling

Mine dont seem to rattle when up, try and check if the weather strip between the front and rear windows still have their felt strip, this i would assume would be the only place where the the windows can rattle against something.

Mine don't rattle, but then I refuse to have them up with the roof down.... it spoils the lines of the car... roof down, windows down... it's the only way... get a scarf

I have a copy of an original road test report from when the 325 cab was launched. The tester (LJK Setright) comments that when the hood is down, 'at certain positions, the windows rattle'. So I guess it's a 'feature', not a fault.
He also recommended lowering the front windows to about 2/3 open, as that reduced the wind effect most - try it, it works. I also find that if the windows are fully lowered, then above about 30mph the safety belt vibrates uncomfortably, and noisily - raising the window about 4 inches is the cure.
Oh, Setright liked the car
Don't know if he's still on this earth, but for those who don't know of him, he is/was what used to be politely called 'eccentric' (aka mad as a hatter). But he knew his stuff, and respected excellence in engineering.

I used to read his contributions in CAR in the 70's I agree with you as to his abilities ..he must be still woth us as he published an article in the INDY in march.
as to the windows yes it is much better with the windows down an inch or two but it is only one side that rattles so i will take the trim off and see if i can tighten anything..let you know

Does anyone use a wind deflector, i got one years ago and the difference is massive. Almost no wind in the cabin at all. still effective with the windows down.
As for the windows rattling, anyone replaced the usually worn felt strip between them. Also. as said, front windows down, even slightly stops all the sideways window wobble. Fronts up rears down deflector up creates a nice cabin effect too.

have you tried the windows set for hair blowing back technique? i discovered this whilst driving from Dubai to Bahrain in Feburary accross 10 hours of boring Desert (but on a paved road obviously!!) i found if you open only the rear driver side window the wind seems to come in the car round the footwell and toward your face, thus yer hair blows backwards AND if its cold you can almost keep tosty warm, but it is sh1t for the passenger, so being a perfect gentleman (ha ha) when me Julie complains that the cab messes her hair i do opposite (open rear passenger window). any one else got any cab findings??
Oh yeah forgot, rear headrests also cut down on a windy cabin!

What's wrong with a windy cabin... that's what I've got a convertible for!

I do have a rattle from my wind deflector where the support rod runs down the middle of it..

I replaced all of the outer and inner rubber strips on the drivers side with brand new and it's made a difference to the rattling. Not particularly cheap for little strips of rubber right enough!
I'll do the other side next year.

How much did this come to, as mine have perished?

My rear side windows rattle with the hood down,I find that rear windows down, fronts up and deflector up is best, just a pleasant draught across my bald patch....and I can listen to Classic FM...(best radio station ever)
My thoughts on the rattle is the un-supported nature of the rear windows is the cause,as hood up I get no rattle.

I think the rear ones were around a tenner each with the fronts something like £15 and £25 - I'll have the receipt somewhere but this isn't far off the mark.
