Dash vibration!

My car is suffering from vibration at speeds above 60mph. The dash is vibrating a serious amount, so much that the CD player stops playing. It seems better at certain speeds (i.e. 85 is better than 80) and also seems dependent on road surface.

Its been bad for a while but got a worse recently I think since I had some new tyres fitted. They were (allegedly) balanced. To my knowledge the tracking is fine as I had it done a year ago and haven't tapped any kerbs etc and the car drives nice and straight.

The steering wheel isn't vibrating like I'd expect if the wheels weren't balanced. Has anyone got any ideas what might be the cause? Could rear wheels out of balance cause this?

Thanks

have all of the wheels checked first.

you have a buckled wheel by the sounds of it
have all your wheels checked and re-balenced if need be, like smithy said

Sounds like the usual problems of aftermarket 17" Alpinas to me!

Thanks for the replies.

I'll get the wheels checked. They're 15" BBS so hopefully they're not buckled! I'll report back once I've been to the tyre fitters!!
