Probably find that the operating fluid has drained away.A zoner did post some time back a method of fixing this, but the general opinion is that the remote ajuster is more trouble than it's worth!! Also read that the electric ajuster from an E34 can be made to fit but the same comment applied. The easy fix is to swap in the manual ajuster system from an earlier car,I keep meaning to do this to my touring but it is well down the 'to do'list..

i had the same problem with mine ant, take the barrel's out the back of the head lights and unscrew the small white pushrods untill they are on just a few threads, then clip it back in and adjust with the barrel looking thing and bingo you got manual adjustable head lights :D just be carefull not to snap anything as they seemed a bit tricky and delicate to remove on mine

The touring I picked up last week has the headlight adjuster system intact with no cracks or splits arpoud the tube connections..

If you look at the body of the auto adjuster there is a grip on the side, if you twist that it will manual adjust headlights.

But not normally enough to raise them high enough. There is a seperate preset adjustment by turning the centre metal rod that goes over to the headlamp which needs to be given a few turns before performing the final adjustment with the barrels.
