E30 Zone

ok im driving home last night reach 70mph and the speedo gauge has a spaz attack then i get in it this morning and it has stopped working anyone got any ideas? although do i bother fixing it cause if i ever get stopped by the police for speeding and the officer ask me if i knew how fast i was going i can honestly say no officer, and know my mpg gauge has stopped working

I changed the mag-pickup on the diff to fix this on mine. Straight swap and 5 min job.. The wires running from the plug on the pickup can corrode and break causing this prob too. I put some new lengths of wire in that were stripped out of the headlight fixings on an E30 in the scrappy. Inside the plug there are some 90 deg moulded rubber connectors. You can split open the plug and you'll see what I mean.

The sensors rarely die but the wiring to the sensors rots. Pull the sensor and inspect/repair/replace the wiring/plug first.

yeah same on mine the pulse generater decide to spop working , but do try continuity of the wires over the rear axle, and maybe clocks also

Most likely to be the wiring from the plug at the diff forward to the car; usually safest / easiest to just replace the wire with new right up to where it emerges under the rear seat.
