2.7 question...

Hello all,

Just after confirmation that what I intend to do is correct.

Currently in the process of purchasing an early 2.7 eta. Going to shave 2mm of the block and combine it with my late 325i pistons and head as advised, then get a cam and vernier to adjust timing. Will also be fitting the sump from my tech2. Whilst doing the above I intend to replace all bearing shells on the bottom end, any guidance on who to approach for the these?...euro car parts? and how much?

Anything I'm missing? Any guidance appreciated!

Cheers

I sourced all the bearing fro eurocarparts that was quite a few years ago before they opened all over the country it was the only shop at the time in London and the guy was good

The guys on here have been having some issues lately wit ECP

the original bearing supplier is usually KS bearings

same part numbers as 325 if i can remember correctly

Thanks for the response guys...

Does anyone know where I get the bearing that I need to put on the flywheel end of the crank? (the 2.7eta is from an auto and apparently it will need this bearing fitting?? Part numbers?

Thanks

I obtained my bearing shells via the engine shop that re-ground my crank,£35 for the shells I think...would reccomend you 'dummy build' one piston/rod/crank assembly into your block and measure the amount you need to shave off,may save  later..good luck with your build,BTW,enjoy the torque.

Thanks for that guys cant wait to get it started now...will speak to the chaps that do the machining about bearings. Dont suppose if anybody knows how to remove the dowels from the block in order to allow it be machined down by 2mm? Or do they have to be removed at all? (as you can tell...not an engineer...DIYER!)

Cheers

Spigot bearing from zimmer in zone's parts dept, only a few quid. The dowels will ease out of the block with the aid of a pair of pliers,if you crush them it's not the end of the world,I have always found the things attached to the head..machine shop is best for the shells, they will know what size is needed if they are machining your crank. I had not re-built an engine for above 30 years when I took on my 2.7,and had never fitted a crank before.M20 is a lovely engine to play with, pulls apart and goes together in a logical fashion.

Follow all daimlerman's advice - it's spot on!
Check that your spigot bearing fits the input shaft of your gearbox before you install it.

The garage I use for servicing have stopped using ECP as they have had problems with quality. Bits go on car goes out and is then back again for the the same bit to be changed again.

It put me off ECP completely.
