E30 Zone

Ive just had my aircon refilled and.... IT WORKS, ish.

The only thing is the aircon fan doesnt kick in but the guy recons its the resistor pack on the fan (which I will order from BMW on the way home).

So all in all, quite a result. He came to my place of work, spent about 1 and a half hours checking the system out and charged £65, which I didnt think was too bad.

He did override the fan to see if it works, and it does but it there anything else that could stop it from working that I should check out (relays, fuses ect?)?

Relay K1 & Fuses 3 & 19 are the relevant ones for the A/C side of things. Relay K6 & Fuse 18 also deal with the fan, but only when the radiator temp is above 99 degrees.

It depends where/how he bypassed it to determine if the low speed resistor is faulty or not. Assuming he simply bypassed the temp switch on the rad, and got both low and high speeds, then the resistor is fine. If he only got high speed, then it probably is the resistor. Get a meter on the resistor and check the resistance. It should be around 0.6 ohms. They normally go open circuit when they fail.

I think he did just bypass it with the switch on the rad but im not sure if he got both speeds, how can I check for myself, what wires do I need to connect?

Ill have to rob my brothers meter for the resistor then, but as ive got a new one on order, ill fit it anyway.

I have checked/changed/swapped the mentioned relays and fuses but it made no odds.
