Local independant built my 2.7 in the summer. They've asked for the car back after 800 miles for check-over, so it's going in on Monday.

Tickover has never been steady, but not that bothered for now as they've used the 525e inlet instead of 325, so I'll change it over when I've got time.

Since the weekend though (at about 700 miles) it won't tickover at all when it's hot. When I try to start it the starter struggles to turn-over the engine and sometimes it won't start at all, although it's fine when cold.

Tried to bump start the car on a bank and when I took my foot of the clutch, the car stopped absolutely dead and couldn't turn over the engine. Left it a couple of hours and it started fine.

Anyone any clues?

Thanks,

Mick

Mick, it could be a lot of things. Sorry, that should read "There are a lot of things it could be".
Is it using a lot of fuel?

Stuart, fuel consumption is no worse the when it had the 2.0 fitted - I haven't taken any figures.

It stopped dead coming off the A19 at Thirsk on Sunday on the way to York and Alan Stevenson nearly went through the back of it. All a bit scary

Was asking about it at the club last night, one theory was the timing's out, but I'm convinced it's not the battery (as it's new) or the starter.

It certainly shouldn't be lumpy.
If it's got worse recently, it won't be the timing out. Personally, my first port of call would be the blue temp sensor (and its wiring, as the loom's been off).
Sorry I can't be more help, but I hope PGC sorts it for you.
Cheers
Stuart.

Please dont bump start any engine that has a cambelt !!!!

Re the poor idle complaint, could be many things, pop her back to them and see whats what :thumb:

I'd check the engine Earth Strap for Condition and security, they can cause all sorts of strange symptoms.

Keep us posted.

Miles off topic, but why oh earth shouldn't you bump start belt driven engines? I've seen it written down all over the place (especially on the box the cam-belts come in) but I've never been able to fathom out why this is!

When it stopped dead, did it restart immediatly or did you have to wait for it to cool down? If you had to wait for it to cool down each time, then it sounds like the engine could be siezing as it gets warm, hence the car stopping dead when trying to bump start, the starter turning slowly when hot etc.
