do these have to have holes in to cause air leaks, or will they cause trouble even if they have cracks that haven't perished all the way through the rubber?

its always best to replace perished rubber
if there wern't people like me,

I had a crack going on rip and that caused a lumpy idle, if I put my hand on the crack the idle used to go high

Only between £10 and £15 for new ones, so best to replace anyway.

Shocking how many E30's I've seen with the inlet boot covered in tape.
