Hi,

I have a mint 1990 320i 2 door.,,now virtually completely rebuilt.

Has anyone out there done a 4 stud to 5 stud wheel conversion? I have a set of really nice 16 inch original BMW multi spoke...to swap out my exisitng set of (5 wheels) 14 inch bottletops...also in great condition...

I have 3 solutions so far...from a guy called Kristjan...cant even spell his surname...but these may help others.

1. Instal the 2 swingarms from a 325i E30, and replace the 4-bolt flanges with 5-bolt flanges from the E36 323ti compact - it fits. Take the brake disc from a E36 323ti compact and machine the outside diameter of the disc smaller to the size of a 325i E30 brake disc. then you have 5-bolt with the same brake as a E30 325i.

2. Instal the 2 complete swingarms and driveshafts from an E36 323ti compact or Z3.... apparently it fits the E30 perfect....then you have 5-bolt with bigger brakes than the E30 325i.

3. install the complete rear axle from a Z3 M-coupe.... then you have the biggest rear brakes that bmw makes...which would be cool...but im only running a 320i...so not a lot of point.

Solution 1 is cheapest....but loads of faff...and I dont have a metal lathe.

Solution 2 is more practical...and about £300 quid? ..but breaking E36 323ti's or Z3's are probably rarer than rocking horse poo.

Solution 3 is most straightforward...but the dearest...as finding anyone who is breaking Z3 M coupes....gimme a break!

Does anyone have any other great ideas???

Could do with some aged wisdom from all you E30 geniuses....

Cheers
