Have you sorted out which diff you're going with yet? It's really not a difficult thing to change... I'd take the chance to fit the 'is diff, with a nice freshen up first - bush (Mcoupe if you like), oil, paint... or if you're planning to go LSD at some point, leave it as is until then.
Short diffs can be amusing, but if you're planning on doing any long distances, 4.1 (from the IS) is definitely short enough.
& just adding my 2p on the above ...erm... 'discussion' - Chris was trying to help you when he posted your location (I've done the same thing on numerous occasions); you had asked if anyone would be willing to take it on & they were going to need to know where you were. I think you owe him an apology, but feel free to ignore me...

Fwiw, i use my car a lot (more than the insurance allows by a long way) and have a 4.27 lsd in there. Im not interested in comfort, useability etc i just want the car to be able to scrape motorway journeys comfortably and accelerate faster than standard an thats what it does. However, with a 4.27 diff in there its on the limit of drivability unless im caning it; it does 80 at abuot 4000ish revs an tops out at about 115ish; this doesn't bother me in the slightest; what im trying to get at is that if you fit a 4.45 diff, which is somewhat higher in gearing than even mine, let alone a 4.10 that is on there standard, you will struggle to reach 100mph and will be changing gear every single second.

4.54 diff on a 325.
Top speed = 120 indicated.
4000rpm in 5th = 100 indicated.
1st gear vanishes quicker than you can say 'bloody hell this accelerates quickly'.
Its more than useable for everyday driving, if a bit heavy on the go juice. I can bimble about town at 15mph in 3rd, its great in traffic and pulls like a train in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th.
'Are you sure you're not in 3rd?'
'No, I'm in 5th'

I never once said what Diff I was using in the whole thread - Simon13 decided for me.
I always intended this as 318iS with 4 doors and boot. So I was always going to keep the full 318iS running gear together, as Cooks Ferry had already suggested. I was also going to go full OEM iS exhaust, 4 branch back. LSD's and such can wait. These guys know their shit and have worked on my cars for years - the fact that I and they have been judged to not know what we're doing, are going to bodge this and the like is just out-of-order. The job will be between £650-900. Man hours and parts will finalise the total as usual.
Now.
As far as ChrisW helping me out, I thought he was somehow trying to giveaway my location out of spite as we had a 'misunderstanding' about a part that he sold me. I apologize to him and didn't mean it to get out of hand but it was clearly crossed wires.

Jesus christ, people offer you their opinion and experience and you go off on yet another rant accusing them of saying you dont know what you're talking about blah blah blah.
If you didnt want any tech help, why is this in the tech help forum? Shouldnt it be in engine conversions. That way you could just say whats been done instead of having all these annoying people trying to help you, which apparently winds you up so much.

Again, did you actually read their posts? I don't want any help from anyone who offers it witch 'bitch' attached.
This is useful for the Diff question:

I had hoped to have a crack at doing it myself but just don't have time - maybe it should now be moved to engine swaps.

The way it sounded was that it was aimed at the previous 3 posts, not the ones before ant's.
I'd say it should be in the engine swap forum personally.

Really?! That's what I had heard but as his thread was still running I didn't know for suremaxfield wrote:Thought royalratch got bannedold_skool_2002 wrote:Soooo, is this conversion done yet??
Wow, I've only been away for a few days and the place goes mad
It may be, but certainly what went around did come around. Ratch is that you? Chris W is making lots of money selling 318is parts if you were interested. Probably to do with his decent location... centre of the country and all that.

"Before" or "up to" and "from"
I heard this conversion is happening as we speak. I also heard that it looks awesome and is having a lot of fresh paint and panels done. I also heard that heated Sports Leather has been sourced. I also heard that some nice bit's like an LSD, OBC, Cruise Control and all new loadbay bit's have been added and a remap is in the pipeline.old_skool_2002 wrote:Soooo, is this conversion done yet??
But I just heard that - could be a load of bull.

I think that E30Mark thought that whatever Daimlerman posted there was offensive and edited it off, replacing it with that comment.Rawhide wrote:What does this mean?daimlerman wrote:Please don't post offensive remarks...

Well a mod has removed it because he deemed it offensive, so you will never know!
