Decent qaulity Hypoid gear oil

the diff needs 1.9 litres but 2.0 is fine.
you can use normal castrol diff oil for open diffs and then add an LSD additive with it. You can get the additive from vauxhall. This is a bit cheaper and just as good as forking out for LSD oil

I'll have a word with my old mate Berni (gearboxman.co.uk) in the morning and see what he recomends before you go shelling out for supposed special LSD oil. I'm pretty sure he always said to use atf in cossie lsd's so i see no reason why that wouldn't be ok for a bmw lsd.

Cossies have viscous LSD units, don't use ATF in a BMW LSD.
Castrol SAF XJ if you want fully synthetic, Castrol B373 if you want to save money. (£36 v £10 for 2 litres.)

I got mine from the dealer at £12 per litre! It's longlife so you may never need to ever change it.
