Right,

Fitted prop after changing diff to large case, slacked off the bolts that hold the center bearing and the large one so the prop length can change.

When i let it sit natuarally there is no adjustment to push it foward to preload it as it is already at the end of the slider before pushing it foward...

Hope this is clear enough for someone to help me...

so basically its as far foward as it will go before pushing it the 5mm to preload it!!! :x

Can't see the lack of preload being a problem either, BUT the fact remains that something is wrong somewhere!
BMW components are manufactured to tolerances of a fraction of a millimetre, not churned out by hand in the backyard of some Chinese blacksmith. If it doesn't fit as it should, then something is wrong. THAT would worry me, not the lack of preload.

Moving the mount for the centre bearing a few millimetres from where it naturally sits.

In the case of an E30, slide the bearing carrier over 5mm, and then tighten the clamping sleeve.
