idling too high
Moderator: martauto
my car seems to be idling a bit too high its now idling at about 900 rpm when it should be 760 + or - 50rpm according to Haynes manual. i had co adjusted a few months back and also tuned and it was fine but since i adjusted the valve clearances and cleaned out hrottle body its been running a bit high. Its a 325,and my question is can i turn the revs down myself or will the CO need adjusting again?
Cheers

do not touch that !!! Its not for idle adjustment. The ICV does that. The threaded bar is just there for a base setting and should never be used for controlling idle speed.Check your tps switch is ok.georob wrote:Sure theres an idle adjustment screw on the tb

The throttle stop screw is factory set to ensure the throttle butterfly just allows a slight amount of air through the throttle housing. If you have moved it it's not so disasterous. Simply unscrew it until it no longer touches the lever. Then feeling with your fingers against the end of the screw and lever check when it just begins to move the lever. When that is established, give it a further quarter turn and refit the anti tamper cap.
This sets the butterfly at it's minimal position. The ICV then controls the idle speed.
It is then however important to ensure that the throttle position switch is adjusted correctly to the newly adjusted throttle stop screw.
