Hi

325i touring on an H plate 1990

I have a problem with my BMW remote alarm, the key fob is OK as the little red light goes on when pressed and the immobiliser light flashes alowing me to start the car.

However the central locking doesnt work on the remote and neither does the flashers and the beeps

Usually beeps 4 time when locked and armed then once when unlocked and disarmed

Alarm was a retro fit by BMW whencar was 3yrs old I have original booklet etc

I have checked the usuual suspects IE multi pin connector in a post and batteries + connections etc

Can anyone help???

Thanxs

Sounds like an internal fault in the alarm. It appears to be responding to the remote and operating the immobiliser relay, but not the pulsed relays for the central locking and indicators.

My H reg 320 Touring has just done exactly the same thing. I opened up the alarm case and found a battery in there which is split and leaking. Could this be the problem or is it just a back up?

The BMW OE alarms which have an alarm sounder under the bonnet and another box above the glovebox. Have a battery in the underbonnet part. This battery can give problems when it fails, including false alarms, but I don't think it's your problem.
The underbonnet unit is just the alarm sounder with a battery back up, and can be removed from the car without affecting the operation of the rest of the alarm. The keyswitch is included in this unit, but, if you identify and connect the wires to this together, the rest of the alarm (locking, unlocking, light flashing, etc ) will operate as normal.
The battery in the sounder unit is a type commonly used in some emergency light units. (The type that come on when lights fail in public buildings)

Brian

Thanks for the ifo mate

If I chose to do nothng will it be a problem?

I have no alarm function but I do still have the Immobilser protection and can lock / unlock with the key

If I choose to have a go at repair:

sorry for asking but when you refer to the underbonnet unit do you mean the sirenbox with the BMW sticker on it?

if so are you saying that

1. If I can ID the wires to the KEYSWITCH inside this unit

2. disconnect them from the keyswitch and then connect them together

3. then the locking and unlocking + indicator flashes will work
4. the alarm will work
5. I wont get the beeps to go with the flashes

at the moment I have nothing at all from the alarm

The alarm is a T30 BMW model (which someone has told me were manufactured by Sigma for BMW)

Thanx again Brian

What I posted was really general information about the alarm for anyone else reading the thread.
I don't think you'll gain anything by disconnecting the keyswitch or doing anything to the underbonnet unit.
I think you have some unusual problem with the part behind/above the glovebox.

i had a problem with mine, would not set or disarm the alarm (after market) the red light on the fob would come on when pressed but alarm would not set. replaced the battery inside it and alarm worked, i guess thate was not enough power left in the battery to set alarm even though light was coming on.
