ok, im making an attempt at getting more involved in this community.

Heres the story:
I was taking out my roll cage to let a friend borrow it (looong story). I wound up smashing my front window really badly. I figured while my seat was out and I couldnt drive the car (because of the window and i was too lazy to put the seat back in), Id fix some of the rust I found on my floor.

Oh yea, I have no interior. A while ago, I got a floor patch put in on my passengers side and I finally got around to taking out the carpet on my drivers side. i have a really nice square of rust under the gas pedal. Im not sure if the rust goes all the way through yet.

Questions: how do I disconnect the gas pedal so I can sand under it? How would you guys go about doing this?

i want to get rid of the rust or at the very least, prevent more. I have been sanding it down to bare metal and spraying primer. Eventually, i want to put truck bed liner in the foot wells for those days its raining and I want to be bad.

The gas pedal as you call it just pulls out, give it a good pull upwards, mine you don't knock your teeth out!

Rust is evil! if the metal is holed by the rust then the only way forward is to cut all the rust out and weld in new metal... surface rust is best ground back & chemically treated...

With the amount of rust and body work i do i really should invest in a good grinder/sander. Im not doing any major chemical treatment. what would you suggest i use? Ive just been giving it the old brake cleaner.

also... what do you guys call the gas pedal there? petrol lever?

We call it an accelerator pedal - because it makes the car accelerate, not fill up with gas. :D

ah, in japan they call it an accel (pronounced like axel). I think in the USA they call it the gas pedal because it puts more gas into the engine. *shrugs* I like calling it an accel (im half japanese (yes, im dancing around the ww2 thing by driving a bmw))

you do realise that its actually a liquid...not a gas! unless you have a leak...
