washers

i have a problem with my washers, when i squirt them noting comes out of the vlaves on top of the bonet the water comes out of this valve type thing on the underside of the bonet

Three and a half hours, and no ones answered this common one correctly?
Quite simply, the "valve type thing on the underside of the bonnet" is knackered. Couple of quid or so from the dealer.
