My 1991 E30 Touring brake master cylinder has just started to weep so I need a replacement. I almost always use genuine parts when they are available. That said, a while ago I needed rear claipers and only 1 was available from BMW (the other being no longer available) so instead a I sourced a 'Bosch' branded item which fitted/worked as expected.

I'm looking for a bit of feed back on alternative brake master cylinders because although I don't mind paying some 'BMW' tax, the current price of a BMW supplied brake master cylinder is over 4 times the price of a new 'Bosch' branded item (£800+ v £150). The car does not do a lot of miles these days (about 2k p.a.) so wondering if anyone has any experience of non OEM brake master cylinders (positive or negative). Your comments would be appreciated - especially as its a brake component. I had to rebuild the rack a few years ago as OEM parts were no loner available and that is still working well.

BMW aren't forging their own from gold and rainbows in a foundry run by mega babe 21 year old virgins. While I'm not certain who does produce the OEM product, it will be Bosch, Brembo or Pagid. A unit from any of these brands, purchased from a reputable outlet will be just fine.

Indeed (or a factory visit would be called for), and my original calc was off as a BMW supplied items is over 5 times more expensive than the Bosch unit (which I have decided to use.
