318 I S misfire ?
Moderator: martauto
Hi my search for a 318is has turned up quite a nice one at a dealers not too far away but its a bit pricey, one thing I did notice though was that just above idle speed the car has a slight hesitation before reving up freely, could this be something expensive to fix or relatively simple ?, I was told the car has been "chipped" and its also had a large cone filter fitted, I realise its not easy to diagnose a fault without seeing the car but any informed opinion would be appreciated, thanks.
Is the engine bay sparkly clean? If so suspect water ingress after some over ethusiastic jet/pressure/steam washing. I'm suffering from the same problem at the moment, it's gonna be a strip it down and dry it job plus some liberal application of a WD40. Hope this helps, if you get any more info on your proposed cars probs pls let me know.

Could just be a small hole in an air pipe... which is VERY common and very difficult to see/find on initial inspection.
Could just be water ingress as MrBroon said.
Might even be slightly over fueling due to the chip. Do you have the original to replace to see if it changes anything? Do you know what make the chip is?
Giles.

Hi again and thanks for the replies, dont have any info about the mods at the moment but there's loads of paperwork with the car so I suppose it would be recorded somewhere, as I said from the initial inspection the car looks good but at Ԛ£1800 for cash it seems a bit expensive what do people here think ?.
price is a tad steep unless it's mint as karan said.
my iS has this problem but not too vicious and not all the time. I think extra air is being drawn in through damaged breather hoses so they're next on the list to be replaced.
