My bonnet release cable has snapped so I need to open my bonnet from outside the car. I have done a bit of research and it appears that this can be done with a screwdriver through the passenger side grill, as in this video:

My problem is that my grill does not have a hole in it to allow me to access the release mechanism. I don't really want to start hacking holes in my front grill. As I have no hole there must be another way to open the bonnet from outside?

Here is my grill:

I seem to be missing a hole in the third groove from the top...

Any ideas?

I would guess it's an aftermarket grill, you could drill out that slot or just put one hole in it, in the centre but that makes it hard to see what you are doing. You can find new ones for about £15 if you make a mess of it.

I can't see any other way as the cable is tucked up along the passenger side wing (in the engine bay) and the end is up behind the lights.

As above mate, I have just been and looked at the two sets I have they are the same as yours but has the slot on the other side for the OEM ones ???
Drill a 10mm hole in the middle of the slot and fumble around for a while until it`s open , it`s quite easy to do this, and then take a hacksaw blade and remove the rest of the slot.
Back to OEM and looks just fine too !!

Mart.
Only the E46 cab left now.
Just got too old.
