Hello brothers.
The other day i noticed my instrument lights stopped working. I did a few basic checkups (the ones that were obvious to me), but none of them got it back in working condition.
I searched the wiki but didn't really find anything of use.
Could anyone point me in the right direction, where should i start?
-The fuse is fine
-Have tried fully dimming and un-dimming the lights
-Yes, the headlights were one when i did
A thing that seemed odd to me: i remember that dimming the lights also made the digital clock in the middle of the console shine less brightly. The backlight of the clock is still on, yet it doesn't react to the dimmer function.
Again, where should i start looking ?
Thanks.

Where you should start is the rear ashtray!
Pull out the ashtray complete, unclip the bulb and holder from it, find a piece of wire, connect one end to a good body earth (handbrake securing nut, if you can see it), switch the sidelights on, and touch the end of your piece of wire against the en of the brown/white wire on the bulb holder.
Do the panel lights come on?

Is it just the instrument cluster lights that aren't working, or are the heater control, ash tray lights, etc. out as well?
Are the rear number plate lamps working?
Are the RH tail and side lights working?

UPDATE:
I had taken it for granted that instrument lights wern't working (i don't drive at night a lot). but then i noticed that the lights on the right hand side wern't working. Turns out fuse 23 was blown, and it kept blowing after replacement.
After a few hours of browsing the web and searching for shorts i found the culprit. A wire from the rear window heater had come loose and was hanging on the metal casing of the head unit.
The wire is now were it is supposed to be, all the lights are working and above all i am satisfied.
Thanks guys.

I'm struggling to see any connection between that, and fuse 23 blowing!guuskolo wrote: A wire from the rear window heater had come loose and was hanging on the metal casing of the head unit.
