Hello.

So I've an E30 BMW with a factory fitted central locking and alarm. The key and keyfob are the only ones I have and I would like to get copies.

Ive been to BMW who sold me a key based on the reg number but that doesn't work. They are currently looking into that and are maybe going to get me a blank for an auto locksmith to cut for me.

As for the fob, BMW have it on their system as discontinued and gave me scorpion alarms details ”“ but that drew a blank too. I know (from BMW) that its a 3T alarm system and that when I get a fob, it needs to be soldered in the correct manner to make it work. Ive stumbled on them on ebay so guess I could buy one and re-solder it and hope for the best.

Can anyone help with getting a key/alarm fob please?

Thanks for your time

A few years ago, I spent about five years without success, looking for a replacement fob for the Scorpion BMW approved alarm, or a fob of any make with the same chipset.
I then gave up, and fitted a remote locking kit from 'Rightclick'. Connects up behind the glovebox to the same wiring as the Scorpion should be connected to, comes with two BMW style fobs, that come with key blanks that you can have cut for your ignition switch.

Cheers guys.

An update - ive found a company that will cut a replacememt key for me and they have blanks. BMW have yet to get back to me but they also said they could get me a blank if not a new key.

Ive found out how to code the alarm fob and have located one from Spain which is in the post. If not ill have to look into a 'Rightclick' option.

Im guessing they can fit it for me and advise me what one to get.

Ill keep you posted

Warren.

What does your remote look like? Is it a black fob with one button in the centre. Like a rectangle with the corner cut off? If so, you can pick u a second hand one and reprogramming it to match your buy re-soldering in your code to the spare one.

It means your car has had locks replaced sometime in its life meaning the lock/key differ from Bmw records/factory

Just buy a blank from Bmw like above for £22 , take it with your other key to any local key cutter and theyl do it for s couple of quid , it takes them 2 minutes

I wouldn't go to the company who say they have keys , you'l most likely just get a generic car key that looks rubbish

An update.

I found a 2nd hand alarm fob and resoldered/desoldered (get a desolder tool) the connections to match the ones on my fob - SUCCESS. Im proper chuffed.

Re the key, BMW say that they have reset some database in Germany and have cut a 2nd key, but its still wrong. They have now ordered me a blank so im going down that route.

Ill add a pic to anyone thats interested - how do i do that without self hosting it?

Thanks for your help all. Just the gearbox and other niggles to sort now.

Congratulations on successfully reprogramming an old style coding chip!
