aditional air slide valve
Moderator: martauto
hi iv'e got a 1985 320i, with a fast idle that gets faster as it warms up. iv'e traced the problem to the additional air slide valve which sits under the rear of the inlet manifold. the valve has a water feed which heats it up and operates the valve which alters the vacuum and brings the idle down. bmw want 178 quid for a new one!!!!!!. iv'e taped up all the hoses to see what happens and the engine now idles low and does not speed up as it warms up, so my question is, do i really need it? its not a daily driver, and i can live with it just now until i do an engine upgrade anyway, so what do you think? cheers scott.

I wouldn't recommend just running the car without the air slide valve, as it's there for a reason. But if you don't want to fork out the cash for a replacement, then consider upgrading to Motronic 1.3 instead. Better driveability, newer parts, and easy to fit in a day for not much cash.
