fuel pump relay
Moderator: martauto
Can anyone tell me were the fuel pump relay is for my 318i h reg saloon and the colour, think its orange in colour and is a bosch relay thats just a simple on/off relay or is it a white one. The orange relay has the fuel pump coloured wire coming out of it, purple/green but need to make sure.

When you switch on the ignition switch a signal is fed to a section of the engine ECU that tells it to switch on the DME (main) relay. This relay supplies power to the injectors, to the fuel pump relay (but does not turn it on), to the rest of the ECU, and, on later cars, to the ABS system if fitted.
The fuel pump relay is turned on by the ECU when it detects pulses coming from the crank position sensor.
There is also a relay socket adjacent to these two, for the heater of a lambda sensor. Most UK cars aren't fitted with emissions equipment, so this socket is usually empty.
